Photo by George Steinmetz @geosteinmetz | About 1.2 million Atlantic salmon swim in the pens in Hjorrund Fjord, Norway. They are fed pellets of fish meal, fish oil, and soybeans via pneumatic tubes from the barge (at left). The lights come from underwater video cameras that monitor whether all the food sprayed into the pens is being eaten. To learn more about where our food comes from, follow @FeedThePlanet.

Farm raised salmon in no way is a good thing. I live in Alaska and I see first hand how amazing wild pacific salmon. The farm raised salmon is terrible for the eco-system as well as for humans. I work on my fathers commercial fishing boat and catching wild salmon is better then eating the fake ones that are fed pellets all day @steel_snorkel

Are you kidding me! The pink and chum returns have been the lowest in a very long time! Now I know that is partly due to over-fishing but still. Raising salmon in pens is not going to help the wild salmon. We should really be spending that money on finding ways to protect the pink, chum, coho, and king runs for future years. Not feeding pen-raised salmon. @steel_snorkel

Yes but eating wild salmon shows that people won’t eat farm raised. @steel_snorkel

Fish farms should be land based. They are toxic to the environment.
